Vivien Sadler
Vivien Sadler is 56 years old and lives in Kent. When she first came to see Chris, in September 2010, she had just had a car accident. Her car was stationary at a roundabout and was hit from behind twice in quick succession, due to the driver’s foot slipping off the clutch. Her neck hurt when she was getting out of the car so she knew she had done something but expected it to wear off.
When I first saw Chris my neck was very sore, I felt dazed and had a constant headache. I was having problems with pain in my ears, which affected my hearing and my balance and my vision was blurred, making it hard to focus. I was very anxious when driving; constantly checking my mirror, in case someone was going to drive into me again. I was thinking about the accident quite a lot of the time.
At my first session I was reassured by Chris’s manner and knowledge on whiplash injuries, and the information and treatment he gave me. I was relieved to hear that Chris felt my chance of a complete recovery was quite likely. I was given some exercises to do at home and an acupuncture treatment which seemed to warm the area and relieve some of the tension, although my headache was worse for that day it was worth it.
Two months later I am so much better and feel confident I will make a complete recovery. The treatments I received steadily improved my condition, reducing the pain I felt and making me feel more comfortable and less tense and anxious. I can do most things now, even reading and using the computer for a reasonable time, which I have found difficult for some time.
I would not have thought of going for physiotherapy initially and would have waited for the pain to ‘get better’; which I realise now might have caused me to miss the optimum time for treatment. Fortunately I was given the opportunity by my insurance company, of having early intervention physiotherapy and within a day or so had an appointment to see Chris.
From my experience I would definitely recommend anyone with a whiplash injury to seek early physiotherapy in order to give themselves the best possible chance of minimising injuries and making a complete and early recovery.
